Official highlights ‘strategic’ role of nomads in food security
Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari – The head of Iran’s Nomadic Affairs Organization emphasized the pivotal role of nomadic communities in safeguarding the country’s sustainable red meat supply, describing their production capacity as a “strategic yet underutilized resource” in strengthening national food security.
Highlighting the sector’s importance in enhancing the country's resilience during crises, Jahanbakhsh Mirzavand stressed that recognizing and investing in this “defensive asset” is no longer optional but essential.
In a recent field visit to Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province, the senior official directly evaluated the challenges confronting nomadic populations, underscoring the need for policymakers to understand the specific realities of nomadic life and urged a clear distinction between the issue of cross-border smuggling and the internal dynamics of nomadic regions.
Mirzavand reaffirmed that the Nomadic Affairs Organization remains committed to its mission, continuing to operate based on its statutory duties and a results-driven approach.
